YouTube Shorts are vertical short-form videos, with features like video segmenting, in-app recording, and sound overlays. Using YouTube’s built-in tools, you can create, edit, add popular music, add animated graphics, incorporate text, and compile a 15-second clip for your YouTube Short.
Similar to platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels, users can share, like, dislike, or subscribe to your channel via YouTube Shorts. It’s important to note that YouTube has millions of hours worth of branded content, so YouTube Shorts could be worth your investment.
How to Make a YouTube Short
Step one is downloading the YouTube app on your phone. You can only make YouTube Shorts natively in the app. You can download the app from the app store on your phone, then log in using your YouTube credentials, or make an account if you don’t have one already.
Step two is to start creating. By tapping the + icon in the app on the homepage, you’ll have the option to record a short, upload your video, or go live. For other effects, browse the toolbar on the right of the screen after recording or uploading your video. Similar to TikTok, there are many functionality options to YouTube Shorts, allowing you to speed up, slow down, add music, and even add a background to your video if you wish. All of this is in the tools section upon making a YouTube Short within the app.
Step three is finalizing and posting your YouTube Short. Once you have finished editing it to your liking, look over everything and make sure it’s exactly how you want it. Upon finalizing, tap “upload short” to publish your video. It’s that easy!

There are many ways to utilize video in your marketing strategy. YouTube Shorts are ideal for reaching customers with small attention spans and to showcase your brand’s creativity. One way to incorporate YouTube Shorts into your video strategy is by promoting your regular channel. When you post a short, it has the potential to grow your audience by more views, which will lead them to your regular YouTube channel.
